1 Peter 2:6-12

Vs 6-8

So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.

Isaiah 28:16

The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.

Psalm 118:22-23

1. The inward work

  • A chosen people
  • A royal priesthood
  • A Holy Nation

Vs 10

2. The undeserved gift

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions–it is by grace you have been saved.

Titus 3:4-5

Vs 11

3. The Outward Work

“You have not really learned a commandment until you have obeyed it. The Church suffers today from Christians who know volumes more than they practice.”

Vance Havner

“I urge you” –

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.

Romans 12:1

“abstain, from sinful desires”

“war against your soul.”

For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

Vs 12

“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God.”

“they may see your good deeds and glorify God.”

“on the day he visits us”
