“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:35-39
I have always loved these verses. They remind me that the Love of God is more powerful than anything and with a week like I have had I definitely need this reminder. This verse is easy to say but can be hard to walk out and live like you believe it when everything around you is falling apart. If we are not careful, it can be easy to believe the lies that flood our mind. When we begin to get those thoughts telling us “God does not love you, you will never get through this or this will destroy you”, we need to take those thoughts captive (2 Corinthians 10:5). We can do this by making a choice not to dwell on what we can see going on and those voices leading us astray. We need to redirect our mind to focus on the truth that God is love and that all things work together for good, and that none of these things can separate us from the love of God. We need to choose to think about things that are lovely and pure. (Phil. 4)
Let those mustard seeds take root and blossom in our hearts. We need to trust and lean on God when we are in the middle of a heated battle, or in the middle of a crisis. One thing I have learned is that it does become easier each and every time. Faith builds upon faith (Romans 1:17). When we are walking through the storms and trials of life and we decide to choose faith over fear, we will see the mighty works of God. Then the next time we are walking through the fire we will look back and remember how good God is and how he got you through the last storm. Then our faith grows and we are more easily able to trust and not be double minded. We are double minded when we say we trust God in a situation, yet continue to worry or make our own plans. In the book of James it tells us this makes us unstable in all our ways.
Lord, I thank you that nothing can separate us from your love and I pray that we would focus on you and the truth when we are in the middle of a battle rather than what we can see and the lies of the enemy.
