So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs. – Mark 16:19-20
I find it so comforting to know that Jesus is alive sitting at the right hand of God. Knowing that He sees me and cares about me and helps me with what I do brings me so much peace. Words can’t truly express how grateful I am to Jesus for the price He paid for me. I am fully aware of how wretched I am and all that God has brought me out of, delivered me from, and rescued me from. I desire that same thing for all those I know. My friends, family, and coworkers, even those I encounter at the store and bank.
Yet, so often I have felt unworthy and incapable of leading them to the Lord. I can easily share what I know and how I feel about Him, but helping them to see the need they have for Him seems beyond my capabilities. The truth is that it probably is, but the truth also is that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Phil 4:13) In Mark 16:20 I’m also reminded that the Lord works with us! That is so cool to me! We are on the team with the #1 player! We have the one who can do anything, see everything, knows all, and create all, working with me. How can I be afraid or worry about messing up? Having this reminder that Jesus is working with me as I go out into this world and share about Jesus gives me so much more confidence and peace.
Jesus will confirm His word and the message we bring. We don’t have to prove who He is. He will confirm who He is. When we share the message, Jesus is working with us and will confirm it with signs. I have seen this more times than I can count. Jesus shows up! We need to find hope in Him no matter how scared we might be to share because “hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”(Rom 5:5) God will not put us to shame as we share the hope we have in Him. He will show himself mighty.
One time I was sharing with an unbelieving coworker about God in the car as we drove to an appointment. I had previously heard this person mocking God and christians. While driving we got lost and ran out of gas. I prayed in front of her and said God would not leave us stranded in the middle of nowhere. He showed up, He was with me as I shared the hope I had in Him with her. We drove another forty five minutes or so, on empty, and made it to the clients home and then to a gas station. Jesus brought accompanying signs as I preached to her. I did not need to do anything other than share and trust Him. I could tell you of many times Jesus has performed miracles and brought signs as I shared. The point I want to make is God’s word proves true. He is with us and He will confirm His word. We just need to trust Him and have comfort knowing He is with us as we preach and share His word and who He is to those around us. Don’t worry that you’re not good enough because you have the One who is working with you.
